Behind the Calculations: An Interview with Zanmichel, Albanias Minister of Defense
Hello, my dear and lovely readers,
Today, I am honored to present an interview with a young player who is truly dedicated to our game. Although he hasnt been among us for a very long time, he has proven to be incredibly successful and highly active since his return.
To be completely transparent, this interview was actually conducted about a week ago. Lately, I havent really been in the mood to do much because I am facing some serious real-life challenges, which made it difficult to focus on the game. I appreciate your understanding regarding the slight delay.
Without further ado, let’s dive into the mind of Albanias defense strategist!
Q: Who is Zanmichel in real life? Please introduce yourself as much as your privacy allows, and tell us how your eDominations journey began.
A: Hi everyone, my real name is Darko and I live in Bitola, Macedonia. Im 21 years old, I am a student in university (hopefully its my last one) and I recently started working as an intern in a company through my university during the summer break. I started playing eDominations on 4th of July 2020 and actually my sister told me about the game because she saw it on an Instagram ad at that time. She got interested since it had Macedonia in it and thats the exact reason I joined. No shes not playing the game or ever started, not sure if thats a good or bad thing xD. I came back on the 30th December 2024 aka 1 day before New Years because I got an e-mail that my account got unbanned so I wanted to check in on the game and see whats happening. I joined the Macedonian discord again, Shime welcomed me and you all know the rest. ( Admin please adjust spirit time whenever the company is on a 1-2 week break so i can compete o7 )
Q: As a university student who also works, how do you successfully balance your real-life responsibilities with the demands of the game?
A: Well to be completely honest I dont really study that much because I am quite smart and I memorize things very fast and easy so I just kinda barely scrape by for a scholarship from the same company I work in now and I dont really go for better grades than that. Also unless there is an event like spirit the game doesnt really take that long to do the dailies including AC.
Q: You are widely recognized as the leading Free-to-Play (F2P) player in the game. How did you achieve this status, and how do you feel about it?
A: I achieved it first by studying every wikipedia page in the game (not all at once, obviously), starting from the basics, investing my gold in a calculated way, then game politics and at the end every single detail about the battlefield so I can minmax shooting in the most efficient way possible to maximize gold earned, but also deal the maximum damage that I can do. I am planning to stay as the #1 F2P player in the game as long as i have time and my final goal is to get to #2 Level in the game because lets be honest Bloody can be AFK for almost a year and no one would be able to catch him.
Q: Lets talk economics—do you currently have a large gold reserve, and would you ever be willing to lend some to me?
A: I always have gold hehehe and if i dont ive probably invested it to make even more gold in the future. I only lend low amounts of gold to players in an urgent need because i am 1/4 Влав ( its some sort of a Balkan Jew person XD ).
Q: Serving as the Minister of Defense for Albania is a massive responsibility. What do you consider your greatest successes and your biggest failures in this role?
A: I will start as my biggest success and that would be the following battle because not only has the record for highest damage in the game, but majority of our alliance except Colombia was shooting non-medal, meaning the soldiers were so disciplined that they were willing to do trillions of damage just to wipe Croatia. https://edominations.com/en/battlefield/93273/2
And as for my biggest failure is this battle is this one https://edominations.com/en/battlefield/89314/2 because not only we lost the battle by 100b damage, but Croatia got the highest damage record (at the time) so they got a better reward on top of winning the battle.
Q: Some people in the community joke that you operate like a robot. How do you manage to handle the in-game Captchas so flawlessly?
A: People are calling me a robot because I always calculate the events to min/max them, get the best outcome possible in the most efficient way possible. Also lets not forget about me doing Spirit events and shooting 20 hours or more everyday during it by doing 30 minute timers since the Captcha is that long. No i dont buy a deploy pack so i can save gold :P
Q: You have built a solid reputation as a highly successful trader. What motivated you to get into trading, and what have you achieved from it?
A: Thank you for the kind words, but yeah me becoming a trader was my way of making gold and helping my citizens in getting products, for example UC Pack and other goods that they need. Well Ive passively made a lot of gold from it and Im planning on doing it until I have time to do so.
Q: Looking back at your time in eDominations, could you share some of your most memorable high points and lowest moments with us?
A: Well i dont really remember many moments as gameplay to be honest with you, but the most fun about eDominations is hanging out with the community in discord servers, spamming messages in the general chat about anything, rarely sitting in voice call when theres a massive OH or something random and everyone screaming, yelling and having fun in it. Also no one likes sad moments so forgetting them is the best option :P
Q: Lets pivot to a personal question—have you ever been in love, and do you see yourself getting married someday in the future?
A: Yes I have, Ive been in 1 relationship that only lasted 1 year and since that ended I am not rushing for anything new until I am 100% ready for a new one since Im only dating to marry.
Q: Since your political roots were originally in Macedonia, what led to your decision to relocate, and how has your experience been integrating into the Albanian community?
A: Me and many players left Macedonia to unite in Albania since it had a better place on the map for any expansions for bonuses and wars also many Macedonian players have previously played with the Albanian in community in other past games and even eDom in the past so we all clicked instantly and became the #1 Firepower in eDom. Admin please give 7 regions to Albania :)
Even though there are controversies about Albanians, for me they are nice as long as youre nice so it was a piece of cake to fit in.
Q: Albania and Macedonia share a incredibly powerful political partnership on the map. Why do you think this bond is so resilient, and how do you feel about it?
A: As i said Albania and Macedonia have a past together as allies in all of the previous games so it felt like talking to a friend that you havent seen in a long time, as soon as you caught up with him its all gonna be back to normal like he never left.
Q: Many players are curious about your unique in-game name. What is the story and meaning behind the nickname Zanmichel?
A: Well the origin of my nickname is actually my dad whose name is Zan and my making an account in Steam/Dota 2 or League of Legends because I was either too young or just didnt know how to make one because I was 9 we barely got internet at that time. I am not 100% sure how he came up with it, but its probably his name + someone elses name that he likes or my grandfathers name when you translated in French Michel since they lived there for a long time hence. I want to add that it started with a lower case z aka zanmichel, but i name changed it to a capital Z since it looks more important in my opinion :P
Q: To wrap things up, what is your honest opinion of your interviewer, Kaveh?
A: Well I dont really know past Kaveh, but the first time I met him was him being in Iran, spamming all possible chats eDom related and also spamming DS in every single battle possible so I wasnt really fond of him to be honest at that time :). Now hes allied with us and doing the same to the enemy so I cant really complain. Hes really dedicated to the game when its needed, reliable and always gives it his all regarding battles, RW opening and strategy to beat the enemy.
